My experience in the conduct of this activity has improved my understanding about the different kinds of assessments that as a teacher might improve more my capacity in assessing my students. during my observation, I have observed that students have their OWN different products. Regardless the fact that they have received and followed the same instruction, they would still come up with their own product. some have submitted well arranged floral design while some have just submitted for compliance purposes only. Their are also some students that you can really see that has done their activity religiously but still end up with a not so well output because errors are very evident. This are some of the things that made me think that it is not only about performance-oriented assessment and that this is when product-assessment comes in.
I also appreciate the product-oriented assessment in a sense that it does focuses on the process and that you can clearly see if the students was able to grasp the lessons was also able to apply all of those in your activity. with it, the teacher can clearly see the evidence of the knowledge and skills that are learned in the entire instructional process by the students and help them account for their learning by seeing the outcomes. and the product of their academic engagement.
One of the most important lesson I have learned is that it is very important for a teacher to know how to assess students. Because students have diverse learning and that we should find alternatives to equally address all the multiple intelligence's of our students. And that we may also be able to eliminate any different biases that may arise in the classroom because of the diversity of students.

My Show Portfolio
Subject matter: Floral Design
Year level: 1st year
Learning Objective:
To be able to make a unique floral design out of the three given types of floral design
Materials:
Different kinds of Flowers
Scissors
Vase
Florist Foam
Performance Task:
Make a unique floral design out of the given two types of floral design
Learning Task:
1. Prepare a small rigid box, cellophane, scissors and florist foam.2. Soak the florist foam thoroughly, popping it into a sink full of water.3. Line the box with a large single piece of cellophane and cut the foam to shape, fitting it snugly into the box.Be careful not to squash or press down on the foam though.4. Prepare the foliage by stripping any leaves from the base of each stem. Make sure each stem is inserted at least 5cm into the foam. Angle the stems so that they don’t cross over each other and space them apart so as not to overcrowd any one spot of foam.5. Add the flowers. Finally, check your design from every angle to make sure that all the foam is completely hidden.
Rubric for Floral Design
Mastery 10 pts | Meets 7 pts | In Progress 6 pts | Poor 0 pts
Color |
Mastery
Exceptional use of design element color in relation to container colors. The design accents the colors in the container. |
Meets
Good consistent application of the element color. The design uses some of the colors from the container. |
In Progress
Weak in the application of element color. The colors of the arrangement do not match the container. |
Poor
Design work lacking the application of the element Color. total disreguard for color combinations.
Form |
Mastery
Exceptional use of design element form. Intended shape is clearly defined & balanced. Tulips are placed correctly. |
Meets
Good consistent application of the element Form. Shape is somewhat defined but can be confused with another shape. |
In Progress
Weak in the application of element Form. No shape defined. Materials used may be broken. |
Poor
Design work lacking the application of the element Form. Makes you ask what is it? Materials used are broken or cut too short.
Focal point |
Mastery
Exceptional use of the design principle of Focal Point. You get excited about this special location in the arrangement. |
Meets
Good consistent application of design the principle Focal Point. Arrangement catches your eye! |
In Progress
Weak in the application of the principle Focal point. Somewhat catches your eye but hard to get excited about it. |
Poor
Design work lacking the application of the principle Focal Point. Arrangement has nothing that catches your eye.
Mechanics |
Mastery
Mechanics are strong, stable, and long lasting. Mechanics are well hidden |
Meets
Mechanics are stable and the arrangement will stay together when being transported. |
In Progress
Mechanics are weak and/ or showing. Foam not taped into container- wire not properly taped. |
Poor
The design lacks mechanics or they are incorrectly installed. No tape used- no wire used-reuse of old foam.
Completeness |
Mastery
The arrangement is complete with leatherleaf, baby's breath, 9 tulips, 3-4 stems of mums/carnations. |
Meets
The arrangement has a majority of the necessary primary & secondary flowers, leatherleaf and baby's breath |
In Progress
The arrangement is missing primary and/or secondary flowers, baby's breath and/or leatherleaf which doesn't meet the standards. |
Poor
The arrangement lacks the necessary greens and flowers needed to create an arrangement and doesn't meet the standards. |

ABAO REFLECTION
When we say performance oriented assessment, we refer to the type of assessment that mainly focuses on the ability of the learners to arrive or produce or demonstrate their own learning. therefore, in this kind of assessment, teachers will not just focus solely to the product but will also look at how did the students come up with the product. it is one of the faults of teachers, they tend to only look at the product and disregarding the process behind it. So, this means that if the learning task is to “write a poem” or “write a book review”or solve a mathematical problem or come up with a basic building plan, the teacherwill focus on how the learner produced or conducted the learning task. The teacher will assess the student/learner based on the skill acquired, so in thecase of writing a poem, the criterion would be “displayed skillful ability to composean original poem” and “displayed ability to rhyme the words“.In these assessment, you are focusing on the skills of the learner in coming up witha Poem. While in the Product-Oriented Assessment, you are focusing on the product yourlearner was able to come up with. In this case, ” Writing a Poem” , so your criterionwould be ” organization of the poem” , ” poem contain 3 stanza” , ” correctgrammar ” , ” appropriate use of words and rhymes “, “contains 150 words”.As you might have observed, we are focusing on the poem itself and not on thelearner. This is what product oriented assessment is all about. Now, the way to assess this is through a RUBRIC. It is not easy grading a process but it shows more clearly the achievement of the student.
